Collection and Handling:

             Collection: Tissue from a sterile collection, or pure culture or  positive blood culture bottle.
Note:  Whole blood is not accepted for this test.  If whole blood is collected, inoculate blood culture bottles or Isolator tubes for culture.
Handling:Transport to the laboratory immediately. If offsite location, store tissue at -20°C and transport on dry ice. Transport viable cultures, blood culture bottles and fixed tissues at room temperature.
Amount: 0.5 cubic mm Tissue, 10 mL fluid, or 1.0 mL positive blood culture bottle
Minimum: 0.2 cubic mm Tissue, 0.5 mL fluid, or 0.5 mL positive blood culture bottle

Laboratory:

Processing: Keep fresh tissue samples Frozen @ -20°C
Keep cultures and formalin fixed tissues at room temperature.
