Collection and Handling:

             Collection: All swabs must be received in Mycoplasma transport media. 
All other specimens (fluids or tissues) should be received in a sterile container.
Handling:Transport to the laboratory immediately.
Amount: 2 mL of fluid, 2 cubic millimeters of tissue in sterile container, or swab in Mycoplasma transport media

Laboratory:

Processing: Freeze specimens at -20°C upon arrival.

Outside Laboratory:  Refrigerate swabs in transport media for up to 24  hours;  freeze at - 20°C for longer periods.  Freeze all other specimens in sterile containers at -20°C.  Transport all specimens on ice.
